The SAL24F20Z brings the Distagon configuration up to date with the most advanced lens technology available, for unsurpassed corner-to-corner optical performance.
Sharp, high-contrast imagery
Two aspherical elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements minimize aberration for superior sharpness and contrast throughout the image, while the ZEISS T* coating cuts flare and ghosting so that images are crisp and clear with well-defined blacks. That impressive performance is maintained at all apertures, right down to this lens’s bright F2.0 maximum.
Outstanding colour and contrast
ZEISS lenses are renowned for their outstanding colour reproduction and contrast. The ZEISS T* coating is an important contributing factor, effectively suppressing spurious reflections that can degrade overall image quality. Flare and ghosting are reduced for enhanced colour and contrast that give images a deep, three-dimensional feel.
Get close for small subjects and details
The SAL24F20Z can focus as close as 19 centimeters to capture small subjects and details with excellent quality. The large F2.0 maximum aperture and 9-blade circular aperture design can contribute to beautifully smooth background bokeh that supports the main in-focus subject in the most appealing way.
SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) focus drive
The SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) is a piezoelectric drive system that contributes to smooth, silent autofocus operation. Its capacity for high torque at low rotational speeds contributes to fast start and stop response as well as precise positioning. To the photographer that means quick, quiet, accurate focus.
ED glass improves resolution and contrast
The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements used in the SAL24F20Z are highly effective in reducing chromatic aberration. That not only minimizes colour fringing, but also contributes to superior sharpness and contrast throughout the image area, even at large aperture settings.
